Oktoberfest 2005

by Francie Spinelli

The Galt Chamber of Commerce sponsored the Second Annual Oktoberfest!  German food, beer, music, dancers, cars and the "World's longest German Chocolate Cake" (in Galt), were some of the features that attracted the crowds.

There's something for every age group at the Galt Oktoberfest.  Baby George Smith meets a new friend.

In the beer garden, guests were greeted with music by "Fern and her Fabulous Friends".  They entertain in hospitals and rest homes in Lodi, Manteca, Stockton, and the surrounding areas.  The phone number for more information is (209) 887-2707, or contact them by email at fernmay @ mfire.com and take out the two spaces for the address to work.

The "World's Largest German Chocolate Cake" (Before) sponsored by the Galt Youth Action Team.  Slices were sold for $1.00 and all proceeds will be used for the Action Team.

(After) Kymm Griffin slices a piece of  "The Worlds Longest German Chocolate Cake.  Girl Scout Troup 322 donated six cakes, Galt High School's La Rassa donated eight cakes, and the remaining cakes came from anonymous home-bakers.  In all, 27 cakes were donated to establish the Galt-World Record of 28 feet and 1 inch!  Other helpers were Ed and JoAnn Forbing and Bianca Ochoa.

Dancers

The dance team, performed German Folk dances throughout the afternoon; they later invited the audience to join in the fun.

The ladies posing with "Mugs" from left to right are: Pat Shockey, President, South County Horsemen's Association; Martha Conlin, member and Terry Riley, Treasurer, of CA Draft Horses & Mules. Terry is also a member of the American River Parkway Equestrian Trail Patrol.

Four Volkswagen Auto Clubs, Deutsch Stahl (German Steel)-Galt, Lee Stahlecker, President; Tru-Dubs-Sacramento; Old School Air-Cooled-Sacramento; and Folks Laggin from Manteca, brought their vintage Volkswagen vehicles adding to the German theme.

Booths (Alphabetically)

Amy Cooper (left) and her mom Carol Able are independent Cookie Lee consultants.  Cookie Lee is uniquely created  jewelry that can only be purchased through Cookie Lee consultants, not department stores.  Contact them via email at  amy @ abcoop.net and take out the spaces.

Debbie Weber owner, His Creation, designs cards, gifts, bookmarks, framed images, driftwood and seaweed crosses, and wire crosses.  She does her own photography for her creations.  If you missed her at this event, she'll be at the Celebration of Creativity October 22, 2005 in Galt.

"Designs by your Pal", Patricia Ann Lujan from Herald, designs mother and daughter purses, cruse bags, holiday bags, travel bags, theme bags (i.e. U.S.A., Breast Cancer, and Support our Troops) baby bags and blankets, or custom bags that you request.  Patricia also sells Mary Kay and can be reached through the website or by phone.

Barbara Fiorica (left) and Mary Kravitz create items from hand-spun goat and alpaca yarn for Goat Farm Creations.  Goat-milk soap, hand-spun yarn, home-made dolls, natural and died fibers, and sheep wool quilt batts, are available to purchase.  Alpaca yarn is soft, breaths, and wears longer than store-bought sox--it's well worth the 20 hours it takes to knit them.  Home-spun yarn can be special ordered.

Agents from Farmer's Insurance, LaVine Insurance Agency, 816 C Street, Galt, provided insurance information and  were available to answer questions from insurance to retirement options and more.  Email address rlavine @ farmersagent.com and remove the spaces.

Lisa Leonard, an Independent Sales Director Consultant for the Pampered Chef, makes house calls for her in-home kitchen shows.  She'll come to you home, prepare a dish demonstrating the unique Pampered Chef products, then you and your guests will sample the finished cuisine.  A full-colored catalog is available on-line with recipes and special sales items.

Winona Casity is an independent consultant for "Princess House."  With the holidays just around the corner, she offers many dining and entertaining products that make wonderful gifts throughout the year.

Linda and Ryan are a mother-daughter team who have combined their talents (and names) to create one-of-a-kind jewelry for their Rylin Designz designer name.

Carol Hendrickson, representing the County of Sacramento Registrar's Office, was available to register citizens for the upcoming election, on Tuesday, November 8. Galt High School District has a Bond Issue on the ballot and Carol encouraged people to "register to be heard."  She informed visitors about a new machine the County will be using, for the first time, to aid disabled voters to vote unassisted.  It will be on a special table with wheel chair access, and headphones with choices spoken in English or Spanish  provide privacy.

To date, 325 children have been adopted.  The churches adopt the community and provide "basics" like clean water or electricity.  On Saturday October 22, 2005, the money raised through Galt's Celebration of Creativity mentioned above, will go towards drilling a well.
