These three "clean-up" helpers are typical of the community coming together to
raise money for a sick boy. They are (l. to r.) Alexis (11), Madison (10)
and Brianna (10). They were having too much fun too.
Falcon Renteria (ione@ccwa.net)
of the Ione Chapter, Chicano
Correctional Workers Assn. organized this great event to raise funds to
assist in the huge medical expenses related to treatment. I was very
impressed by how well it came off and the friendliness of everyone. Ricky
Diaz is being treated for leukemia and could not attend the event. His
family and friends were all there.

A "cafeteria" style dinner was served and the line was quite long. It gave
everyone a chance to shake hands with old friends and make some new ones.

Karla Diaz, Pam Cuevas and Lisa Meitz were happy to collect your money and give
out smiles.

They called themselves the Four Amigos, but they are from different local
groups. They came together to assist in this worthwhile effort. You
can get a glimpse of the beautiful raffle prizes in the foreground.

The prizes awaiting the lucky winners.

L. to R. Gabriela (7) and Daniela Duemas (11) were helping with the event, but
right now I caught Gabriela helping herself to a bite. Their father, the
always generous Jorge Duemas of El
Rodeo Taqueria provided a lot of the food for the dinner.
They had sold 37 dozen tamales by 5:30 PM. The CCWA provided the "seed
money" for this event.
