Andrew Merideth and Gladys Brown distributed pamphlets "Welcome to the
Neighborhood," "Fire Safety," and "Drug Facts" and also gathered comments from
citizens on how to improve Galt. Andrew is a City Council candidate and believes
"Elected leaders should always listen to the public and care about their
opinions." He was here today to participate in the community and his kids love
to play in the parks. Signing up for a free T-shirt is Elana.

Cathleen Amos, Parks and Rec Commissioner, gathered votes on the type of
equipment to purchase for the park. There were four choices to choose from: A) a
4-point-base claiming device; B) 4 point-base but taller than "A"; C) A 3-point
base, which if selected, would be small enough to retain the swing set, and D)
Two "B" style climbing towers. If "D" is selected there would not be enough room
for the swing set.

The Boys and Girls Club operates three sites in Galt, Fairsite
Elementary, and Greer and McCaffery Middle Schools in conjunction with City of
Galt Parks & Rec. Because of the use agreement with the three schools, the
program has expanded this year to operating from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m at
Fairsite school and 9:00 to 6:00 at the middle schools. They serve youth from
ages 6 to 13, offer child care with theme weeks for 8-weeks running through the
end of July. The Fairsite group has a free pool day on Thursdays because of
their close proximity to the Galt Pool complex, and pool passes are issued as
incentives for the middle school members.
