Making Memories at Emerald Vista Park, October 8,
2005.
Gladys Brown greeted neighbors with Free T-Shirts, "Litter Bugs Me"
bracelets, and I Love Galt buttons. The free gifts and hot dogs,
chips, and drinks were funded by councilwoman, Barbara Payne.
Susan Richardson, Vice President of the Elementary School Board,
had a duel role, the "Tin Man" and Face Painter. Shown with "McGruff
" the Crime Fighting Dog, is Noah Butler with a police car painted by
Susan. It's Susan's hope that if the park is safe and attractive,
people will "love their park, and work together to keep it that way."
C.A.P.S.
and Police Cadets were available to answer questions. In a few weeks,
both Hugh Smith and Jack Gardelius (CAPS Volunteers), will receive
out-of-town training for assisting the Galt Police Department.
Painting Tiles
One of the most popular events of the day was painting tiles for
the wall. Each tile will be combined with the others to make a
decorative wall created by local families.

Park Neighbors

Other visitors to the park were Miki and Larry Carter. They're the
original owners of the first home built on their block in 1988. They
came today to meet their neighbors and build up community spirit. In
Larry's words, "As a citizen, you can have an impact and make a
difference; nothing can happen without people putting forth effort."
Bob Bell was walking his dogs, "Abby" and "Brandy" they all stayed to
visit. He went home to get "Emma" to join in the fun. "Emma" a 10
year old mix, was named after the park, because Bob found her there
when she was six months old. Just recently he found a home for
another stray. After getting no responses to an ad he put in the
paper, Bob spoke with a neighbor whose aunt was visiting from San
Diego. The stray now has a loving home in San Diego.

In January 2005, Galt established a Disaster Alert Team (DAT)
prepared to respond when fires, floods, and other emergencies occur.

victims of the Katrina Hurricane. |
