Bake Sale at Raley's for the John Moran Scholarship

By Duane Ausherman

After the resounding success of the first bake sale at Save Mart, Virginia Menezes (Galt High career resource person) offered to do a bake sale at Raley's store on Twin Cities Rd.  The management at Raley's require permission from the Corporate office.  The time was drawing short and the store just didn't have any word.  Finally, Scott Raley, the store manager, made an executive decision to allow the bake sale to go on.  It was decided to be held the day before Thanksgiving, when the store would have a lot of traffic.  Only two days remained to organize tables, sellers and recruit bakers.

Crystal Rodriguez (14) and Christina McElroy (14) are the last remaining sales students after a long day.  Notice how little remains for sale with just over 45 minutes to go.  The students did a wonderful job.  They arrived with little experience in selling, but with a bit of training they were ready to go.  Selling baked goods isn't so hard, but these students learned how to get the potential customer's attention, explain the mission and get donations......... without selling anything.  More money was received from direct donations than from selling baked goods.

L. to R.  Kasandra Valenzuela (16), Jamel Seagraves (17) and Amber Teel (17) are still smiling after a long day.  While most students volunteered to serve on the morning or afternoon shift, Kasandra spent the entire day selling and helping out as needed.  Amber and Kasandra are both high powered sellers.  Galt better watch out.  I watched as one geezer after another fell "victim" to their charms.

The profit was an amazing $837.07

The next time that you go into Raley's, please thank the management (Scott Raley) for allowing this sale to go on.

Thank Virginia Menezes for her hard work putting this on.

City Council person, Barbara Payne for arranging the loan of chairs and tables from Parks and Recs.  Thanks to Parks and Recs employees Phong Nguyen and Lance Brown for helping load and unload the chairs and tables.
